Virgo season invites us inward.
In tarot, Virgo is connected to The Hermit, an archetype of reflection, solitude and inner wisdom. So it felt especially aligned to join Sierra of Tarot Alkhemy for her Tarot for Healing episode during Virgo season.
Tarot Alkhemy centers spirituality, tarot, Black mysticism and ancestral wisdom, making space for conversations that honor Black and Indigenous spiritual experiences. As a queer Afro-Boricua tarot reader, I knew I wanted to be part of that conversation.
And the conversation got, J U I C Y!
From healing and decolonization to rest, intuition and actually having FUN with tarot, here are five reflections I’m still carrying with me.
1. The Hermit: Go inward first
The Hermit has been an important card throughout my healing journey.
For me, it continues to mean slowing down, finding my quiet and listening to my inner wisdom. I’ve had to learn to listen without immediately reacting and trust what comes up when everything around me gets quieter.
Being a Virgo moon, that feels especially relevant during Virgo season. Reflection isn’t about having every answer. Sometimes it’s creating enough space to hear yourself.
Journal Prompt: What becomes clearer when you turn down everyone else’s voice?
2. Decolonize all of it
Decolonization, for me, cannot stop at spirituality.
It means questioning our relationships with religion, work, productivity, rest and the beliefs we inherited about what makes someone “good” or worthy.
We can respect that a religious tradition is sacred to someone else while recognizing that every religious sect does not have to be for us simply because we were raised in it.
We are allowed to question. We are allowed to evolve.
We need to focus on being HUMAN.
3. We deserve restorative rest
For a long time, I connected less sleep and more work with making more money and accomplishing more.
I’m learning differently.
The Hanged Woman reminds me to pause and see differently. The Empress asks me how I am nourishing myself. The Sun reminds me that healing includes joy.
Sometimes getting enough sleep fills my cup. Sometimes being social and laughing with people I love fills my cup.
We have to problem solve. Understand the struggles. Be in those moments. But we also have to look for the light in the darkness.
We deserve restorative rest, whatever that looks like for each of us.
We are NOT machines.
4. Ask the questions you actually need
Tarot allows for deep self-reflection. It can help us connect with the divine while also connecting with our inner thoughts, patterns, experiences and ways of caring for ourselves.
There isn’t one perfect way to ask a question.
Sometimes a querent (the person getting the reading) needs a general reading. Other times, specificity helps us hone in, especially when reading for ourselves.
Try:
What is my current energy?
What surrounding factors am I not noticing?
What guidance do I need right now?
The point isn’t always predicting what happens next. Sometimes the deeper work is understanding what is happening within us right now.
5. Trust yourself enough to learn your way
This might be my biggest advice for anyone learning tarot:
Put the guidebook down sometimes.
Pull one card and ask:
What do I see?
Then:
What does this make me think about?
Notice the imagery. Notice what catches your attention. Write it down. Then explore the traditional meaning.
Study the archetypes. Learn the suits. Read the books, blogs, find videos/reels. But don’t become so focused on reading tarot “correctly” that you stop listening to yourself.
And please have fun. 😂
Not every pull has to uncover your deepest wound. Healing includes joy, curiosity, play and discovering new parts of ourselves too.
Wherever you are in your tarot journey, I hope this leaves you feeling more confident about where you are right now.
You don’t need to know everything before you begin.
Reflect. Question. Rest. Play. Learn. Change your mind. Trust yourself.
That feels pretty Hermit to me. 🕯️🃏🤎

Tenemos derecho a cuestionar. Tenemos derecho a evolucionar.
Tenemos que enfocarnos en ser HUMANOS.
Estoy aprendiendo otra manera.
NO somos máquinas.
Intenta preguntar:
¿Cuál es mi energía actual?
¿Qué factores a mi alrededor no estoy notando?
Reflexiona. Cuestiona. Descansa. Juega. Aprende. Cambia de opinión. Confía en ti.
Eso se siente bastante Ermitaño para mí. 🕯️🃏🤎
