How I Balance Being an Assistant Principal, Professor, and Tarot Reader

Balance is a word people use often, but my life doesn’t always feel “balanced.” It feels overwhelming most days to be honest yet at the same time: full, intentional, and sometimes like I’m moving through different worlds in the same day.

I’m an Assistant Principal, a college professor (at two of my alma matters) and an intuitive tarot reader.

And this year, most importantly, I had the privilege of marrying my amazing wife, something that has grounded me in ways I’m still learning to name. Her support, encouragement and love allows me to show up as me in the most authentic ways as I heal and move forward.

For over twelve years, I’ve worked in education, supporting students, coaching teachers, and leading with equity, language, and community at the center. I also teach undergraduate and graduate students, holding space for future educators to think critically about identity and practice. I love this work, my college students keep me grounded in so many ways and I love being on the ground in public elementary education while still in higher education.

This work is deeply human. And so is tarot.

My journey with tarot has been growing over the last couple of years and I decided to return back to my blogging. Especially with today’s energy, the Two of Swords reversed, feels fitting here.

It’s about no longer avoiding what you already know. It’s about taking off the blindfold, facing the tension, and choosing clarity, even when it’s uncomfortable. I need to be writing more, I have been journaling over the last few years but it is time I open back my public journal.

For a long time, I didn’t fully claim all parts of myself together. The educator. The leader. The runner. The intuitive.

But the truth is, they were never separate. I am hopeful that in my blogging space, I can keep them all together to share, to inspire and to simply record the revolution of me, taking up space and sharing with the collective.

For me, tarot isn’t about predicting the future. It’s about reflection, clarity, and learning to listen to yourself. In many ways, it mirrors what I do every day, holding space, asking questions, and supporting people in finding their own answers.

Running has also been part of that grounding. After completing 14 half marathons and the New York City Marathon this past November 2025, I’ve learned what it means to trust myself, stay present, and keep moving forward, even when things feel uncertain. I have grown so much over the years, reflecting and looking in the mirror is so important for growth, and tarot makes this paradigm that much easier to access.

Running has taught me discipline. Tarot has taught me intuition. Education has given while teaching me purpose, dedication and being.

And maybe that’s the lesson here.

Not choosing one path over another, but choosing to see yourself clearly.

Sin negar partes de ti. Sin dividirte.

I don’t separate these parts of my life anymore. They inform each other.

Through Tarot with Dalila, I offer a space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with yourself.

No creo en el tarot como algo fijo o definitivo. Creo en el poder que tienes tú.

If you’re feeling called to check in, this space is here for you.
